Before applying the primer, the surface should be carefully sanded with sandpaper with the following gradation:
- manual sanding (dry or wet): P280 – P320
- machine sanding (dry): P180 – P220
Preferably use a 1.8 nozzle with a ratio of 5:1 + 25% thinner. For most repairs 2 coats are sufficient, if necessary up to 3 coats can be applied for a total of 300 µm. The second coat is applied after 7-10 minutes and the third coat is applied after about 30 minutes under normal conditions. The primer becomes matt; if shiny areas are visible, wait a few more minutes for the thinner to evaporate. The optimum drying temperature is 18-20°C! Below this temperature the curing time increases considerably and at temperatures below 8°C the chemical curing process stops.
Curing time at 20°C:
- Filling primer /130÷300 μm/ ready for sanding after overnight drying
- Primer /60÷130 μm/ ready for sanding after 3÷4 h
Curing time at object temperature 60°C:
- Filling primer /130÷300 μm/ ready for sanding after heating for 35÷40 minutes and cooling the coat (about 2h)
- Primer /60÷130 μm/ ready for sanding after heating for 25÷30 minutes and cooling the coat (about 2h)
Please note that the cabin drying times are given for the cabin and the heated material. Example of 30 min at 60°C means heating the cabin for 10 min, then the metal sheet for 5 min and from then on 30 min. In order to speed up the drying process, the IRT radiator should only be placed after approx. 10-15 minutes
The primer is easy to process - mechanical sanding with sandpaper grading from P320 to P500
